DAVE 'BROKEBACK' HARDING
VIRGINIA / MARYLAND / WASHINGTON DC
Growing up on the Potomac River, and spending summers on Lake Wequaquet in Cape Cod, instilled a love of the water in me at an early age. I first got out on the water in an old Prijon Kayak at the lake, where we’d spend hours practicing to get our rolls, but I soon moved off onto the bigger and better world of whitewater.
Most of my river adventures consisted of either sitting in the back of a rubber raft guiding campers down the Mather Gorge, or in the the cockpit of my kayak, but one day in 2010 that all changed. While guiding raft trips I had seen someone paddling a SUP a couple of times and finally got the guts to ask him about it. I wish I could say my first time was a success, but it was pretty much full of wipeouts. What it did do though was get me hooked on the amazing sport of Stand Up Paddling and gave me a whole new perspective on the river I’ve been paddling for years.
I do my best to share the stoke with all the campers that come through our programs at Calleva Outdoors.

INTERESTING FACTS
Along with being a watersports enthusiast, I also do plenty of outdoorsy land activities as well. in 2017 I was featured on an episode of ABC’s Rock The Park, where I took hosts Jack and Colton rock climbing at Great Falls Virginia. I am also an avid backpacker as well, and was a Gear Tester and writer for Backpacker Magazine and the OR Daily in 2013. When i’m not off on some sort of adventure you can find me tending to my bees on the Calleva Farm, or designing sets and scares for Markoff’s Haunted Forest. I'm also a Volunteer Firefighter, EMT, and Technical Rescue Specialist.
THE FUTURE
Whats next is a question I’ve been asking myself a lot lately. I know for sure that the future will contain plenty more days out on the water, whether they be on the river or surfing it up at the beach. For 2019 the big plans are a trip down the Grand Canyon, and of course I’ll be bringing my ERS board along for the ride down the Big Ditch!
