GREGORY MILLER

WASHINGTON DC / MARYLAND / VIRGINIA

Since 1979 when I started snowboarding and surfing, my passion for the water/mountains and rivers has never been greater. Outdoor experiences have been the best life therapy for me and many of my friends too. When I started to go stand up paddle boarding in 2008, the life therapy switch went beyond the next level. It was so awesome to get to be a beginner at something again!

Teaching people how to stand up paddle for the past 9 years has been the most amazing experience and never gets boring or old to me. Putting together one of the first SUP programs in the Maryland/DC area and becoming one of the first ACA Level 3 instructors has given me the knowledge and confidence needed to give the best quality instruction to our students at PaddlestrokeSUP.

Riding for Earth River SUP has been a dream come true…they actually took my ideas seriously and my “designed by a surfer” philosophy became a big part for me when I was put on the board design team for ERS

INTERESTING FACTS

I'm a licensed building contractor, an avid dog lover, and the very proud dad of triplet boys.

THE FUTURE

Even after many years in the sport of sup, my enthusiasm continues to grow. I became a National Park Service Volunteer as a member of the Potomac Paddlers Volunteer Corps to help others understand how precious our National Parks are, to promote water safety and clean water.

I am always coming up with new ways to teach to better myself and my students. The Fun Factor is what it's all about. My current goals with ERS involve it's growth and stoke all over the country. It's really cool to see other parts of this world starting to catch on to our brand and stoke too!

FAVORITE PADDLING LOCATIONS

I love the Potomac River, but it's good to get out in the world to experience other waters, meet other paddlers and share the stoke!

The Rappahannock, James, Gauley, New River Gorge, Catawba, US National White Water Center and the waters in Washington state are some of my favorites. Surf trips to California, Hatteras, Florida, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Baja, Mainland Mex, Fiji and Hawaii are some of my travels.

FLATWATER – POTOMAC RIVER – MARYLAND / VIRGINIA

I have many favorite spots but my passion for teaching stand up paddle boarding bring me first and foremost to the serene water near Anglers Lot where I teach Paddlestroke SUP classes.

WHITEWATER – ‘ROCKY’ GREAT FALLS – VIRGINIA

'Rocky' as it is known by locals is a very cool standing wave at the foot of Great Falls that is favored by experienced paddlers.

SURF – ASSATEAUGE ISLAND – MARYLAND

A great sport for mid Atlantic surf. it can be a little spotty but on a good day it will break with some nice waves that are great to SUP or surf on.
